Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments. It consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other suitable material, poured with a cementitious binder, polymeric, or a combination of both. Due to the variety of chips that can be used, the colour and aesthetic possibilities are endless. Terrazzo is highly durable, making it the perfect solution for highly trafficked areas, in fact the majority of the London Underground Network utilises terrazzo, as does the majority of supermarkets and airports. Maintenance of Terrazzo is simple and it is long lasting, making it ideal for any project. DMC have been installing terrazzo since 1999 and so has access to some of the most skilled terrazzo installers in the UK, being members of the National Federation of Terrazzo Marble & Mosaic Specialists, who will ensure installation optimises the required finish and lifespan of the product.

Ceramic and Porcelain

Ceramic and porcelain tiles are suitable for both walls and floors and come in every size and colour imaginable. They are sleek, stylish, simple to clean and durable. DMC can expertly install the tiles and can recommend the best products to use to fix them and the best methods of installation for the location and end use.

Natural Stone

Granite, limestone and marble all provide a beautiful, hard wearing surface. Natural stone has been used for wall and floor coverings for hundreds of years. Our installers will cut and install the tiles, suggesting how best to set the tiles out to take into account physical restrictions or other interfaces on site. We can also recommend suitable treatments and sealants to best protect the natural stone, suitable for the environment and its use, whilst maintaining its natural aesthetics.

Flowcrete UK’s seamless terrazzo florring range, Mondeco, provides the ultimate in luxury and durable flooring for commercial venues. Mondeco can be produced using a wide variety of colourful and decorative aggregates, these are then incorporated into a resin mix and expertly ground on site, insitu, by our licensed installers, to produce a smooth terrazzo floor finish. Aggregates that can be used include glass, marble, mother of pearl, granite and flint.

Ardex’s Pandomo is a modern surface system that provides total architectural design freedom. Pandomo can be installed on the wall or floor, and a Terrazzo style finish can be produced. The colours achievable are endless and the beauty of this product is that it provides a seamless surface, with no need for grout joints or small bays. The base is a cementitious floor covering which allows an almost unlimited range of designs and colours.

Sub-floor Preparation

To ensure the best finish and durability of the surface, the sub-surface must be perfect. DMC can install everything from your sub-structure up, which includes the following:

  • Wearing Screed – with or without a surface topping, or maybe just a painted finish. A cheap solution for locations that aren’t going to be trafficked heavily and where you don’t need a floor with the wow factor.
  • Screed – probably the most important part of your floor if you are installing a tile or other finish on top. DMC install all kinds of screed, heavy duty, fast curing, your simple sand and cement. We can wet-fix your tile or we can install a pre-screed and then adhesive fix your tile at a later date, dependent on what your priorities are in terms of programme and other trades, for example. DMC are one of only a hand full of installers that hold a license from Flowcrete and we work closely with other suppliers, such as Ardex and Mapei to be able to provide design solutions and develop products that provide the best performing finish.
  • Concrete – a cheaper alternative to build up the floor if a large depth has been left before screeding, or as infills to access hatches to achieve fire rating.
  • Latex – if your sub-structure has been left with undulations, these can be easily and cost effectively evened out with self-levelling compounds. We will also accurately scabble down the high points and make up the low points with latex, to create a suitable surface in order to install our finish.
  • Voidformers – these can be used for the formation, shaping and positioning of openings to reduce the weight of concrete structures.
  • Insulation – particularly important in commercial buildings, these can be both thermal and acoustic.
  • Underfloor Heating – commissioning of underfloor heating is particularly important to ensure that the screed does not crack, which would result in cracks travelling up to the surface finish.
